The company can be traced back to year 1865 when it was called Jinling manufacturing bureau established during the westernization movement in Qing dynasty. It was regarded as the cradle of Chinese national industry. After the foundation of the people's republic of China, it was restructed and named as Nanjing Chenguang Machinery Manufacture Plant. In June 2003, the company was renamed as Aerosun Corporation.
