SP-1045 is a reactive alkylphenol resin and is supplied in flake form. SP-1045 resin cures butyl rubber. Because of its versatility and inherent ozone resistance, it has been employed in many areas including tire curing bladders, conveyor belts, gaskets, pressure sensitive adhesives, and heat-resistant packing compounds. In addition, these vulcanizates are non-blooming, non-staining, and have high modulus values. SP-1045 resin can be used in inks, paints, and coatings.

Bonding resin selection needs to take into account the rubber, the mechanical reinforcement (wire or textile), the surface treatment of the reinforcement, the process conditions and the service conditions of the final product. All solid bonding resins require a curative such as HMMM or HMT.
