Advantages
A\Lower cost: Because the production of a-Si consumes little silicon material, it is not easily affected by the fluctuation of silicon material price, therefore its production cost is very low. A-Si thin film solar modules have only 1-1.5 years' energy payback time and this contributes to energy saving in the production process. The cost of modules take a large part in the cost of the system, so the modules directly affect system cost and cost of power generation. To calculate by current market prices, the same amount of capital can get about 30% more power capacity while the power to be generated will be more.
B\More power generation: For PV array of the same power, a-Si solar modules can generate 10% more power than mono-crystalline and poly-crystalline silicon solar modules, and this is proved by Uni-Solar System LLC, Energy Photovoltaic Corp., Kaneka Corp, Holland energy research institute and other organizations in PV industry. A-Si solar modules have better performance under high temperature.
C\Better performance under weak light: A-Si thin film solar modules can be used in areas with less sunlight.
