The UCC28180 is a flexible and easy-to-use 8-pin active power factor correction (PFC) controller operating in continuous conduction mode (CCM) for boost pre-stabilization in AC-DC front ends. The voltage regulator provides high power factor, low current distortion and excellent voltage regulation. Suitable for universal AC input systems ranging from 100 watts to several kilowatts, the controller is programmable from 18kHz to 250kHz switching frequency to easily support power MOSFET and IGBT switching. Integrated 1.5A and 2A (SRC-SNK) peak gate drive outputs are internally clamped to 15.2V (typ) for fast connection without buffer circuits turn on, turn off, and easily manage external power switches. By using average current mode control, low distortion waveform shaping of the input current can be achieved without input line sensing, reducing external component count. In addition, the controller has a reduced current-sensing threshold, which facilitates the use of low-value shunt resistors to reduce power dissipation, which is especially important for high-power systems. To achieve low current distortion, the controller also features a regulated current loop regulator circuit to eliminate associated errors.
