6. Introduction
This product is white or light yellow crystalline powder, practically insoluble in water, freely soluble in methylene chloride, soluble in ethanol (96per cent), and slightly hygroscopic. Ivermectin is routinely used to control parasitic worms in the gastrointestinal tract of ruminantanimals. These parasites normally enter the animal when it is grazing, pass the boweland set and mature in the intestines, after which they produce eggs that leave the animalvia its droppings and can infest new pastures. Ivermectin is effective in killing some but not al lof these parasites. In dogs it is routinely used as prophylaxis against heartworm.
Ivermectin is a new type of antibiotic anti-parasitic drug with broad-spectrum, high efficiency, low toxicity. lt has good expelling and killing effects on parasites both in vivo and in vitro, especially on nematodes and arthropods. It is widely used in gastrointestinal nematodes, lung nematodes and parasitic arthropods of cattle, sheep, horses and pigs, intestinal nematodes of dogs, auricular mites, scabies, cardiofilariae and microfilariae as well as gastrointestinal nematodes and ectoparasites ofpoultry.
lvermectin is also highly effective apainst ticks and flies that breed in fecest could not make the tick die immediately, but it could affect the ingestion, molting and laying eggs and thus cause the reduction of fertillity. It has similar effect on Haematobia. It has an expelling effect of 94%~100% on ascarid, Hyostrongylus rubidus, Strongyloides ransomi, Trichocephalus, Oesophagostomum radiatum, metastrongylid, adult and immature insects of Stephanurus dentatus. It also has good effect on trichina in intestinal tract (no effect on trichina in muscle) Besidesit also has good controleffecton Haematopinus suis and Sarcoptes suis.
