This tool is needed as the emergency brake in some models rotates the rear caliper piston inward to provide the emergency brake function by applying the brake pads to the rotor similar to the typical braking process. This tool will rotate those rear caliper pistons back into the caliper housing to provide clearance for the new pads. This kit has an assortment of caliper piston wind back mating adapters for most vehicles.
