Ferrosilicon (Ferrosilicon), belonging to ferroalloy, silicide, silicon accounted for 15-90% content. The appearance is gray white fine granular solid particles with bubble holes, many varieties, according to the silicon content division, such as FeSi90(containing 87% ~ 95%Si), FeSi75(containing 72% ~ 80%Si), FeSi65(containing 63% ~ 68%), FeSi45(containing 40% ~ 47%Si), FeSi15Chemicalbook(including 14% to 20%Si), etc. Impurities Al, Ca, S, P, C, Mn, Cr and so on are specified according to different uses. The binary phase diagram of silicon and iron is shown in Figure 1 below. Silicon does not form carbide in steel, but exists as a solid solution in ferrite and austenite. Silicon can improve the strength of solid solution in steel and the deformation hardening rate of cold working, but reduce the toughness and plasticity of steel. Electrical steel contains 2%-3% Si, but requires low titanium and boron content. The addition of silicon in cast iron can prevent the formation of carbides and promote the precipitation and spheroidization of graphite. Ferrosilicon containing barium, zirconium, strontium, bismuth, manganese and rare earth is used as inoculant in cast iron production. 4. High silicon ferrosilicon is a reducing agent for the production of low carbon ferroalloy in ferroalloy industry. Ferrosilicon powder containing about 15% silicon (particle size <0.2mm), used as a weight increasing agent in heavy media beneficiation.
