Nature:
1. Hexane is a colorless liquid that has a special odor at room temperature and pressure.
2. It has a low density with a melting point of -95°C and a boiling point of 69°C.
3. Hexane is a non-polar solvent, insoluble in water, but can be miscible with many organic substances (such as fats and oils).
4. Hexane is flammable and can form a combustible mixture with air.

Purpose:
1. Hexane is a very common industrial solvent, widely used in coatings, cleaning agents, paints and glues.
2. It is also commonly used as an extractant and reaction medium in chemical laboratories.
3. Hexane can also be used for the separation and detection of organic compounds by gas chromatography.
