Product Description

AISI 1045 Medium Carbon Steel:
1045 steel is a widely used medium carbon steel known for its excellent combination of strength, toughness, and wear resistance. It is one of the most common carbon steels and finds extensive applications in various industries due to its favorable mechanical properties and ease of processing.

Chemical Composition:
Carbon (C): 0.43%-0.50%
Manganese (Mn): 0.60%-0.90%
Phosphorus (P): 0.04% (max)
Sulfur (S): 0.05% (max)

Mechanical Properties:
Tensile Strength: 565 MPa (82,000 psi)
Yield Strength: 310 MPa (45,000 psi)
Elongation: 16% (in 50mm)
Reduction of Area: 40%

Physical Properties:
Density: 7.87 g/cm³ (0.284 lb/in³)
Melting Point: Approximately 1426°C (2600°F)

Heat Treatment:
1045 steel can be heat treated to achieve desired mechanical properties. Common heat treatment processes include:
Annealing: Heating to 800°C - 850°C (1470°F - 1560°F) and slow cooling to relieve internal stresses.
Normalizing: Heating to 870°C - 920°C (1600°F - 1700°F) and air cooling for improved machinability.
Quenching and tempering: Heating to 840°C - 870°C (1550°F - 1600°F), quenching in water or oil, and tempering at 550°C - 660°C (1020°F - 1220°F) to achieve desired hardness and toughness.

Surface Treatment:
Common surface treatments for 1045 steel include:
Black oxide coating for enhanced corrosion resistance and aesthetics
Shot blasting for surface cleaning and preparation
Chromate conversion coating for improved paint adhesion and corrosion resistance

Applications:
Machine components: Shafts, gears, crankshafts, and sprockets
Automotive parts: Axles, steering components, and transmission parts
Tooling: Dies, punches, and cutting tools
Construction: Bolts, studs, and connecting rods
General engineering: Hydraulic shafts, spindles, and rods

Quality Assurance:
1045 steel is typically produced to industry standards such as ASTM A108 and SAE J403. Quality assurance measures include:
Chemical composition analysis
Mechanical property testing
Dimensional inspection

Environmental Considerations:
1045 steel is recyclable and can be reused to minimize environmental impact. Proper disposal of cutting fluids and other waste products is essential to prevent pollution.
