Solvent: Due to its good solubility, isobutyl alcohol is widely used as an organic solvent in industry. It can be used to dissolve resins, paints, coatings, inks, and adhesives.
Intermediate in chemical reactions: Isobutyl alcohol serves as an intermediate in the synthesis of various chemicals. It can participate in esterification, etherification, and acylation reactions to produce compounds such as plastics, fragrances, and pesticides.
Solvent extractant: Isobutyl alcohol can also be used as a solvent extractant in the separation and purification of compounds from mixtures. It is employed in the petroleum industry for refining cru de oil and producing petroleum products.
