Bridge & Road base isolation lead rubber bearing
Lead Core Rubber Isolation Bearing for Highway and Bridge are rubber bearings made up of alternate layers of steel laminates and hot vulcanized rubber with a cilindrical central lead core. The rubber in the bearing acts as a spring. It is very soft laterally but very stiff vertically. The high vertical stiffness is achieved by having thin layers of rubber reinforced by steel shims. The lead core provides damping by deforming plastically when the isolator moves laterally in an earthquake.

Comparison of the lead rubber bearing and common rubber bearing
The damping coefficient of plain elastomeric bearing is less than 5%, while the lead rubber bearing is more than 15%. During the earthquake, the lead rubber bearing can increasingly reduce the accelerated speed and uniformly change the large force of the bridge superstructure, thus, lead rubber bearing has better seismic function.
