The reason behind the application of the reverse osmosis membrane to the production of pure water lies in the fact that its pore is so small (0.0001μ =10 angstroms) and it can compare with the diameter of water molecules; While the diameters of the molecules of the other metals and chemical compounds are larger than the diameter of water molecules: As to viruses and bacteria, their diameters are even further larger. Therefore, only the water molecules can osmose to the opposite side of the membrane in a reverse way; While the other elements, viruses and bacteria can't infiltrate to the other side. This is just the reason for the reverse osmosis membrane's capability of obtaining pure water.
