Crude oil and petrochemical products produced from crude oil contain active sulfides that corrode metals. The copper sheet corrosion test can be used to determine whether the fuel contains active sulfides that can corrode metals. Among them, active sulfides have a direct corrosive effect on metals, and sulfur-containing compounds have a great impact on the working life of the engine. Therefore, we need to use instruments to measure the copper sheet corrosion of the oil and compare it with the color guide to determine the corrosion level.

The copper corrosion color guide used for the test should be compared with another (new) corrosion standard color plate carefully protected from light to check its fading. View the color palette in diffuse daylight (or light equivalent to diffuse daylight)-first directly from above, then from a 45-degree angle. If any signs of discoloration are observed, especially on the swatch to the left of the corrosion standard, discard the swatch.
