Calcium carbide
Calcium carbide is produced industrially in an electric arc furnace from a mixture of lime and coke at approximately 2,200 °C (3,990 °F).It is a chemical compound with the chemical formula of CaC2.Its main use industrially is in the production of acetylene, calcium cyanamide, steelmaking, carbide lamps.
Calcium Carbide reacts with water and moisture to produce flammable acetylene gas and lime. The heat of the reaction may ignite the Acetylene.
Application
1.Acetylene Generation :The calcium carbide is sometimes used directly as a processing materials,its main use is obtained when the store react with water to produce acetylene gas;
2.Metallurgical used De-sulphurizer :Calcium carbide is powerful and effective reducing agent .In the metallurgical field ,it is added to liquid iron to remove sulfur impurities before process in the steelworks.
3.De-oxidization :Carbide with size 5-30mm is usually used as de -oxidization agent ;
4.Other Application:Calcium carbide is also a raw materials in the chemical industry .For example in obtaining PVC;
