Child-Resistant
Child resistant caps aka Saftey cap, CRC, or CR cap. Was invented in 1967 by Dr. Henri Breault. The tragic cases of accidents in U.S. homes where children ingested lethal doses of medicine lead to the the Poison Prevention Packaging Act of 1970. Firmly putting the standards and requirements for many potentially hazardous chemicals to have some sort of child resistant lid.
Fortunately, Dr. Breault's invention three years had already made it's way to most major pharmaceutical companies. When the law took effect the industry had anticipated the need and those that didn't have CR caps quickly adopted them. Child-resistant caps go through performance tests before approval. They also require two dissimilar motions before opening.
In some cases CR caps have proven a problem for aged individuals. And in some areas pharmacists may provide medication without child-resistant caps. Remember: there is no such thing as child-proof packaging. Thus, it should not be considered your primary line of defense, merely your last.
